Our contribution to the 2024 Heritage Open Days will be Exploring the Market Place: Past and Present:

Programme
Thursday September  5th at 6.30pm: a talk by Geoff Lang at the Methodist Church.
Friday 6th to Monday 9th:   Independent exploration of the perimeter and whole area of the early 13th century market place and changes since then,

Brochures are available from the Library and the Tourist Information Centre and online on the SCS website. showing explanatory maps.  Key features of the Market place over time will be identified on the map, for example the sites of the various market crosses, encroaching buildings, viewpoints.

Participating buildings are on all four sides of the original market place and on the rows which have encroached subsequently. A poster outside buildings will indicate participation in HOD. The posters display a QR code to access the historical leaflet for that place and hard copies will be available at each venue.

We are grateful to the Library and Young Gallery who will mount displays about the Market place at various points of its development.
There will also be ticketed tours of the Hall of John Halle/Odeon on Friday Sept 6th . Tickets available from the Salisbury Information Centre.
